Sanitary sewer networks

Sanitary sewers: trunk sewers, manholes, service connections and pumping stations — with CCTV inspection and handover.

Scope of work

  • Trunk sewers and sanitary sewer runs in PVC, PP and vitrified clay pipe
  • Manholes and junction chambers, concrete and plastic
  • Service connections from the building to the main
  • Sewage pumping stations including power supply and commissioning
  • Shored trenches, including in waterlogged ground, with dewatering
  • Pipe jacking and directional drilling where the road cannot be opened
  • CCTV inspection, leak tests and as-built documentation

Who we work for

Developers — a network for the whole estate together with a connection to every building, run alongside the road works so the site is not opened twice.

Municipalities and utility companies — trunk sewers and extensions of the existing network, with traffic management and surface reinstatement.

Industrial and private investors — sewers inside the plant or a connection to a house, with the approvals on our side.

How we do it

With sanitary sewers most of the job is the trench: depths are often large and the ground carries water. We shore the trenches with a system support and dewater them, and we check the gradients with a level as we go. Once the pipeline is laid we run a CCTV inspection and a leak test, and the backfill is compacted in layers with testing — without that the road above the sewer settles after the first winter.

We describe the full sequence — from survey to handover — on the home page.

Questions we get most often

Do you handle the approvals and the handover as well?

Yes. We arrange the approvals with the network operator, notify the works, organise the handover and provide the as-built documentation together with the survey.

What if water appears in the trench?

We dewater the trench with wellpoints or with pumps from sumps, depending on the ground and the depth. On sanitary sewers this is routine, not a reason to stop the works.

Does the road have to be dug up?

Not always. Under carriageways, tracks or existing utilities we use pipe jacking or directional drilling — the surface stays intact.
